In 2006, Mr. Huston relocated from San Diego to Madera County, where he began his career as a prosecutor. Initially overseeing traffic court, he managed hundreds of driving under the influence (DUI) cases. Over time, he expanded his role, taking on positions as the welfare fraud prosecutor and the rural crimes prosecutor for the county.
His career progressed further as he transitioned to become the drug court prosecutor and ultimately the lead deputy district attorney for the Sierra Courthouse. In this capacity, Mr. Huston handled a wide range of cases, from DUIs to violent felonies, including assault, burglary, hate crimes, and attempted murder, across the eastern half of Madera County.
After three years as a deputy district attorney, Mr. Huston returned to Southern California, where he served as a senior associate at several San Diego law firms. He continues to practice criminal law and remains an active attorney with San Diego County’s Office of Assigned Counsel. Expanding his expertise, he has developed proficiency in bankruptcy litigation and returned to mediation and family law. Additionally, Mr. Huston represents businesses and business owners in corporate and civil litigation. To date, he has taken over ten cases to trial, achieving favorable outcomes for his clients.
Mr. Huston has established himself as a skilled trial litigator, leveraging his mediation and negotiation abilities to resolve cases efficiently when possible. However, he is equally prepared to take cases to trial and advocate zealously for his clients when faced with unreasonable or unyielding opposition.
As the lead trial litigator for Huston | McCaffrey, Mr. Huston is admitted to practice in all California state courts and all four federal United States District Courts in California. Beyond his legal practice, he is actively involved in the community and serves on the board of directors for the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association in San Diego.
